Dev Blog Week 12

Introduction

Hello everyone! We are coming to the end of this module. Currently the game is in good shape with some minor bugs that our team is addressing. We are preparing for exhibition in school (National University of Singapore) on 9th November 2022. Do come down and support us if you’re around Singapore!

Updates

This is a general update for our gold phase since no new features will be developed in the next few weeks.

In the gold phase, we focused on polishing the existing mechanics, player progression, UIUX, VFX and SFX. We are unable to produce the final enemy AI using machine learning as too many variables are required to make it work. Hence, we decided to improve our dynamic spawn point instead of using machine learning. This would still produce our desired target; making the game more difficult as the enemies will adapt its strategy according to the player’s building in a certain way. We managed to add in a few other mechanics that give better progression like removing cards from deck powerful and spell cards to reward the player for defeating the boss waves.

We also re-look into the UIUX, and realised that there was missing information that the player requires such as wave number or base health. Adding this into the game helps the player to have a better gauge of the player’s progress in the game.

Another major improvement that we implemented in this phase is the permanent upgrade to towers. This feature was added to promote replayability, player progression and to fit the genre of rogue-like where after the player loses the game, some form of progression is provided to the player to make the next run smoother and easier, so that the player can push on to higher wavenumber. As the player loses, in-game currency will be awarded to the player that can be used to purchase upgrades like increase damage dealt for the towers or increase the fire rate of the towers.

Currently, we are making some adjustments to the game’s difficulty level. Right now some of the enemies are growing too strong and makes the game too difficult.

This is all we have to update so far. Stay tuned for new updates soon!
